“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”
~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

We’re still enjoying our back deck, and the flowers are gorgeous this year, having been such a wet, mild summer.

The second half of our lives

Last weekend, we sat out with our friends Chris and Carma and munched on appetizers while sipping wine.

We talked about life, our kids, the latter part of our lives (when you hit 50, you start talking about this), and how to make every moment count.

The word courageous comes up. How can we live more courageously, and choose more love and grace?

How can we get more rest and take care of our bodies so we are healthy and strong to face the world, and do something meaningful in the second half of life?

Pear Brie and Prosciutto Crostini

The nitty gritty comes down to this.

Start small. An appetizer and wine with the neighbors. This Pear Brie Bruschetta Recipe made on toasted crostini is perfect.

All you need is: 1 French baguette to make crostini, a Bosc pear, brie cheese, and prosciutto. Plus butter and fresh basil.

The fact that we are still seeking out new friendships, and learning about other people’s lives, is important. It’s easy to get in a rut with our circles and live small.

I’m saying this to encourage. Paul and I are not just doing the same thing over and over, but we’re digging in. Trying new things, forging new relationships, putting ourselves out there.

Our neighbors inspire us, and hopefully we inspire them.

Serve crostini and wine

Inviting new people over for an appetizer is a tangible demonstration, saying, We’re not going to do the same thing over and over.

With intention and hope, we live in the now.

We put the phones down.

We take in the warm sunshine, our faces to the sky, and bite into a delicious Pear, Brie, and Prosciutto Crostini, with a sip of really good wine.

You don’t need a lot of wine, just a few sips of really, really good wine!

Happy weekend, Friends!
